As per Personnel Ministry order, professor Sanjay Dwivedi was appointed as the Director General of the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC). Currently, Dwivedi is Registrar of Makhanlal Chaturvedi National University of Journalism and Communication, Bhopal.

The order said that the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has appointed him as the DG, IIMC. He has been directly recruited for a period of 3 years.  The head post was lying vacant for more than a year.

Since June 1 2019, K S Dhatwalia, Principal Director General in the Press Information Bureau was also in charge of the post of the Director General. Last year advertisements have been posted for this post. Based on that the candidates have been selected.

A total of three candidates have been chosen for that post. Professor Dwivedi was on top 3. This institute was set up in 1965. The Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) is autonomous institute under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
