On Tuesday, National Testing Agency, NTA started JEE Main 2020 exam. Total of 8.67 lakh students had registered for the exam, but amid COVID-19 the starting day saw a great fall in the number of aspirants appearing for the exams. Amid the COVID19 threat many aspirants did not go for the exam across the country.  Despite the fact that government had made several safety protocols, students did opt out of it.

Starting from Gujarat to Lucknow, Jharkhand to Assam came a good number of students who dropped out of the choice for giving exams. According to the reports of media, on the first day there was around 45 percent shortage in JEE main attendance  across the country.

This time in Assam and Dehradun, the biggest dip in the number of appearing candidates was recorded.  Due to fear of the virus, around 50 percent of the students skipped the exam. Across the state on first day of the exam, in Assam in the six exam centers less than 50 percent attendance was recorded  .

In Lucknow, amid the COVID19 pandemic there was around 44 percent of candidates did not appear for the examination . As per the district officials only around 1065 candidates from various districts of UP had enrolled for the test and they chose Lucknow as centre. On the exam day only 597 candidates appeared in the test while 469 candidates dropped it.

On Tuesday, as per reports around 31.42 percent and 58 percent aspirants did not give the exam from Jharkhand and Raipur .

A dip in candidates was also witnessed by Gujarat. Virendra Ravat, who is the JEE Coordinator for Gujarat stated that, “Out of 3,020 registered students, only 1,664, or 55 percent, remained present, on the first day of examination while 1,356 (45 percent) did not turn up. Talking about the normal conditions, only  25-30 percent students are there who skip the exams. This year the percentage is higher by 10-15.”
