Not UPSC, most Indian students are looking for coaching in UGC-NET: Survey

In India, a Government job is next to godliness. Every year, crores and Lakhs of students prepare for the limited government job seats. So, you would be surprised that it is not UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) for which Indian students are searching various coaching institutions, but UGC-NET (University Grant Commission-National Eligibility Test) as per the reports.

The highest coaching institutes search is for UGC-NET with 47,898 followed by UPSC civil services with 44,174 and SPSC (State Public Service Commission) with 32,911 preparations according to a report by Sulekha, a tech-AI platform for expert services.

Tie-III cities have the highest search for Coaching Institutes with 1.60 lakh requests in a year followed by Tier-I cities with 1.32 lakh requests. Although, Delhi still leads in terms of most searches with over 30,222 requests in a year followed by Chennai and Hyderabad with 15,147 and 11,671 requests respectively.

Satya Prabhakar, CEO of Sulekha said, “The study shows government exams are popular among the TIER-III cities job aspirants while Defence/police exam is most requested competitive exam coaching searches in the metro cities.”

Important Terms:
TIER III cities
– The cities whose population is under a million like Kota, Jodhpur, Ajmer, Bikaner, Udaipur and more.
TIER I cities – The cities whose population is more than a million like Mumbai, Chennai, Delhi, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Pune, and Ahmedabad.

UGC-NET is the most demanded competitive exam in the country but it varies city-wise with top three coaching categories like in Chennai – SPSC (3981), Railways (2331) and Teaching (2145) while in Delhi – UGC-NET (6274), Defence/Police Recruitment exam (5470) and SSC (5136).
