The poetic story of a 17-year-old young man, who is the son of a school teacher, making his father proud by securing AIR1 in NEET’17 has been told by the recently announced results by CBSE.

Navdeep Singh, son of Gopal Singh and Simarjeet Kaur, has topped the NEET examination for admission to MBBS and BDS courses in the country. The young lad says he plans to pursue an MBBS degree from Maulana Azad Medical College in Delhi. The boys comes from Mukstar, a town around 550 km from Chandigarh.

“I was hopeful of clearing the exam but I had not expected to become the all India topper,” says NEET topper, who also has an interest in cricket.

The father of the boy expressed his pride and excitement over the excellent performance by his son. “Since I am a teacher of physics, my son too developed an interest in science. It is my dream to make him a doctor,” says Gopal Singh.

Working with the LIC of India, Navdeep’s mother, Simarjeet, is also over-flowing with joy.

The second and third all India ranks were secured by Archit Gupta and Manish Mulchandani respectively. Both the candidates come from Indore, and were found to be good friends when looked into the connection deeper.

Both the boys left their homes to live in a hostel so that they could focus entirely on their studies and motivate each other. They attended the same coaching institute. Archit wants to be a neurosurgeon.

“Archit and I always compete with each other, but it is a healthy competition and helped us score well,” said Mulchandani, who is the representative of India in the Bio Olympiad in London on July 23.

Both Gupta and Mulchandani secured their positions among the top 10 of successful candidates in an entrance exam to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).

A total of 11,38,890 students had appeared for the exam. Of these, 6,11,539 passed the test which was held on May 7.
