Arts Faculty in Delhi University

The Delhi University Teachers Association (DUTA) has requested the university administration to evaluate the students of final Semester on the basis of an alternative mode rather then organizing their exams this year.

The university has decided to conduct online Open book examination for the final year undergraduate and post-graduate students. Although there are no exams for first and second year students and they are being promoted on the basis of internal assessment and performance in previous semesters.

The teachers and students of the varsity are opposing this decision citing the reason that it is not in favour to the health and safety of any stakeholder to hold exams via any mode amid the rising cases of COVID-19 and uncontrollable spread of corona virus infection.

The teachers association wrote a letter to the Vice-chancellor of the university, P C Joshi, regarding there demand and requested to consider revising the decision regarding exams in the view of damage caused by the pandemic.

The association’s letter mentioned that, “With the kind of damage which families have suffered, we feel that the university should review the decision regarding examinations for the terminal semester/year students. The alternate mode adopted for the continuing students may be extended to the terminal semester students as well,” it said.

Recently, the university has postponed the Exams of Final year and Final semesters to June 1. The exams were earlier supposed to begin from May 15. Rather then focusing on the conduction of exams, the university should prioritise the declaration of pending results, said DUTA.

It further added, If the university is unable to make a final decision itself, then it should consult with the University grants commission (UGC) and Ministry of Education (MoE) regarding this concern and should come up with an suitable but effective solution.
