The Cannes Film Festival has been organized and hosted in Cannes, France since 1946. The International Festival Celebrates its 71st Anniversary this year in May, 2018. The main goal of this film festival is to promote films from all over the world and give them a wider global audience. This year, 4 movies from India have been added to the list of nominees for the film festival:

  1. The Extraordinary Journey of the Fakir, a collaboration film by India and France starring Indian actor Dhanush, and directed by Canadian screenwriter Ken Scott.
  2. Manto; an upcoming Indian movie starring actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui, directed by screenwriter Nandita Das.
  3. Sir, directed by Rohena Gera, and starring actors Tillotama Shome and Vivek Gomber.
  4. Asthi, a short film directed by Dinakar Rao, and starring Antara Rao.

The movie The Extraordinary Journey of the Fakir has gained a confirmed feature on the Film Market for India Day during the Cannes Festival. Manto has been nominated for the ‘Un Regard’ section. Sir competes in the Critics Week selections, while Asthi is set to be featured in the Short Film corner.

India has officially come a long way since its first Cannes Film Festival feature attained by Chetan Anand’s movie Neecha Nagar in 1946. This movie was the first Indian film to receive a Grand Prix award at this festival.

After 6 successful movies being screened at the festival in 2016, India took a break from the 70th Cannes Film Festival. Bollywood, however is back with 4 movies ready to participate in the festival, this May, 2018.
