After all the hype and hullabaloo, Salman Khan starrer Dabangg 3 finally hit the screens of cinema halls yesterday on 20 December. The film, which is the third installment in Dabangg franchise, collected Rs 24.50 crore at the box office on its first day

Film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh shared the business figures of the film on his verified Twitter handle. He also pointed out that the film has suffered losses due to the ongoing protests against the controversial Citizenship Amendment Act. Therefore, the film’s business kept fluctuating throughout the day and resulted in substantial loss.

The collection is good but not for a film like Dabangg 3 which is a huge massey film, although without substance. The figure is much lower than his previous release of this year Bharat which earned Rs 42.30 crore on its first day. The previous installment Dabangg 2 that came out seven years ago collected 21.10 crore on its opening day.

The film is receiving mostly unfavourable reviews like other big films of the past Thugs of Hindostan, Zero, Saaho and Housefull 4. But Saaho performed well and Housefull 4 performed extremely well at the box office. Therefore it remains to be seen which way Dabangg 3 goes to.

Besides Salman Khan, Dabangg 3 also features Sonakshi Sinha, Arbaaz Khan, Pankaj Tripathi, Kiccha Sudeep, and Mahie Gill in key roles. The film marks the debut of Mahesh Manjrekar’s daughter Saiee Manjrekar. Produced by Salman Khan and Arbaaz Khan under their respective banners of Salman Khan Films and Arbaaz Khan Productions, the film is directed by Prabhudeva.
