The man who made everyone laugh with his impeccable comic timing is no more. Actor, Fred Willard best known for his roles in Christopher Guest’s mockumentary films died on Friday at his home in Los Angeles.

Fred’s death was confirmed by his agent, Mike Eisenstadt.

Fred who never played a major role in films, made a name for himself by portraying small comedic roles in popular mockumentary films and television series. In a career spanning over 50 years, he played roles in films like This is Spinal Tap, Best in show and Anchorman.

A four time Emmy nominee, the modern generation will fondly remember him as the father of Phil, Frank Dunphy in the popular sitcom series ‘Modern Family’. Before his dying he completed the upcoming Netflix comedy series ‘Space Force’ starring Steve Carell in the lead. The show is set to premiere on Netlfix on May 29, 2020.

Cinephiles will also remember him as Shelby Forthright, the CEO of Buy-N-Large in Pixar’s 2008 animated film WALL-E. His performance in the film will forever be a testament of his vast talent.

He was respected in Hollywood for his improvised comedy and for his knack of portraying outrageously funny characters. The New Yorker, once described his characters as “gloriously out of their depth”.

After the announcement of his death, tributes poured in from various famous personalities on Twitter. “There was no man sweeter or funnier. We were so lucky to know Fred Willard and will miss his many visits,” tweeted Jimmy Kimmel. “Late Night” host Jimmy Fallon described him as a good man and one of his favorites. Steve Carell, his co-star in the upcoming show “Space force” mourned his demise by tweeting: “Fred Willard was the funniest person that I’ve ever worked with, He was a sweet and wonderful man.”

Fred Willard is gone but he will forever be remembered as a legend of comedy in show business.
