Have you ever heard about ghaas(grass) ka halwa? Or maybe fish halwa? Yes, we are still in our senses, but just a little surprised though.

The Timeliners posted a video “Halwas of Rampur” on their YouTube channel. Chef Kunal Kapoor embarks on a journey to explore the cuisines of Rampur, and it is then that we find that your favorite halwa is never made using flour. It is in fact, prepared from all other various things.

The video, Halwas of Rampur is episode 4 of The Royal Palate, a show in which chef Kunal Kapoor explores the hidden gems of different states.

Chef Kunal tells that the cuisine of Rampur hasn’t gained much popularity outside Rampur. The cuisine that dominates Rampur today has come a long way after serving the Nawabs of the older times. He meets various chefs on his journey and tries their specialties. Chef Kunal tries ‘ghaas(grass) ka halwa’, ‘gulatthi’, ‘zarda’, ‘taar korma’. Later on, Chef Kunal, along with his friend Kunwar Amar visits the Nawab for a royal meal. The chef at the Nawab’s house is a boy who is just 19 in age but knows his art very well. The halwa that is served at Nawab’s house is of 3 kinds. One that is made with neem leaves, the other is made from ginger and the third is made from fish.

Chef Kunal also tries Gulab jamun that is made of mutton.

It is a great initiative by Behrouz Biryani and TVFPlay to bring forth the hidden gems of this country.
