One thing can cause a wide change in the fortunes of a person or a company. It can be anything, for Disney it came in the form of their musical ‘Hamilton’. As per a report from research firm, Apptopia because of Hamilton, the Dinsey + mobile app had more than half a million downloads.

The numbers revealed were 513,323 globally and 266,084 in the United States of America. Hamilton came on the platform on July 3. July 4 marks the independence day of America. The musical’s release over the fourth of July weekend sparked this upsurge in its download numbers.

Lin-Manuel Miranda has created it, which features African-American and Latino actors, playing the founding fathers of America. The makers of the musical had planned to release it in theatres in October 2021. However, the pandemic came between their plans.

Earlier, ViacomCBS had announced the release of their animated film ‘Spongebob Movie: Sponge on the Run’ digitally in the early 2021. Thereafter, it will move to other CBS All Access.

Disney’s Disney+ mobile app had about 71.5 million downloads prior to the weekend, globally. In its calculation, India and Japan were not considered as Disney+ had merged with existing apps in the respective countries. In India, Disney+ merged with Hotstar to from Disney+ Hotstar.

Hamilton has gained glowing reviews from its critics, who have praised its magnanimous scale and vision.
