Zoya Akhtar‘s ‘Gully Boy‘ had a great start as it has got a double-digit on its first day at the box office. The film collected ₹18.70 crores on its first day and ₹12.50-12.75 crores net on its second day at the box office.

The film which is released in 3350 screens across the country, was expected to mint ₹16 crores on Friday, but it observed a drop of  33-35% which is a normal drop after a partial holiday (Valentine’s Day) collection.

Despite the drop in the collection, the film is still earning in big numbers and expected to see solid growth in Saturday collection. ‘Gully Boy’ stands with a total of ₹32.50 crores and as the movie will observe a four day weekend, can reach a total ₹50 crores in its first weekend.

Trade analyst and film critic, Taran Adarsh has tweeted the latest collection reports, He wrote, ”#GullyBoy dips in metros [marginal] and mass circuits/Tier-2 cities [maximum] on Day 2… Day 3 [Sat] and Day 4 [Sun] should witness substantial growth at metros [target audience]… Strong *extended* weekend on cards… Thu ₹19.40 cr, Fri₹13.10 cr. Total: ₹32.50 cr. India biz.”

‘Gully Boy’ is Ranveer Singh‘s second-highest opening ever after ‘Simmba’ and for Alia Bhatt its the highest first day earning among her films.

The film is directed by Zoya Akhtar, an undergod story about a poor guy from Dharavi named Murad (Ranveer), whose dreams are bigger than his reality. He beats all the odds to become a successful rapper. The movie puts a shining light on India’s emerging rap culture and is inspired by the lives of rappers Naezy and Divine.
