The first song of the upcoming film Hotel Mumbai  that stars Dev Patel and Anupam Kher has been released today ahead of the film’s release on 29 November.

The Australian-American film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2018 and was subsequently released in Australia and America earlier this year. It will now be released in India in four languages – English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.

Titled Humein Bharat Kehte Hain, the song truly reflects the Indian values and goes by the lyrics “Mehmaan Toh Rab Ke Jaise Hai” which translates as “Guest is like God” in English. The video features Anupam Kher, Dev Patel, and others and gives a glimpse of what happened on the day of Mumbai 2008 attacks.

Penned by Kumaar and composed by Sunny Inder, the song has been sung by Stebin Ben.

The song was shared on official account of Zee Studios with the caption “An ode for the martyrs who sacrificed for the greater good. Presenting #HumeinBharatKehteHain from #HotelMumbai:”

The film is inspired by the 2009 documentary Surviving Mumbai about the Mumbai attacks in 2008 at the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel in India.

Speaking about the film, Anupam Kher said in statement, “The film celebrates the real-life heroes and how they were able to discover their own courage. Sometimes you discover your own courage in a situation like this. As actors, we are widely celebrated but these are the heroes who need to be in the spotlight. This film made me learn the biggest lesson of my life – to value humanity above all.”

Anupam Kher features in the role of Hemant Oberoi, the celebrated chef of the hotel who was instrumental in saving the lives of many stuck in the Taj Hotel on the night of 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks in 2008.

The veteran actor further added, “It’s been 35 amazing years for me in this great industry I work in. I have had the fortune to work on such impeccable films and with equally impeccable talent. I think any actor would agree that one doesn’t count the number of movies they do, an actor is greedy for more parts, for better parts and that’s what my journey has been defined by. I’m happy this film, Hotel Mumbai is my 501st film, it’s a landmark project for me and for all those brave souls who help continue the spirit of humanity in dire times of need.”

Hotel Mumbai is directed by Anthony Maras and co-written by Maras and John Collee. Besides Anupam Kher and Dev Patel, the film also features Armie Hammer, Nazanin Boniadi, Tilda Cobham-Hervey, Jason Isaacs, Suhail Nayyar, Nagesh Bhosle and Natasha Liu Bordizzo.
