Miss America 2018 titleholder Cara Mund from North America broke the news of the 97-year-old national beauty pageant finally dropping the swimsuit and evening gown competition rounds from its competition. A tweet uploaded by Mund on Tuesday, which contained the gif of a bikini vanishing up in smoke, finally confirmed that the organizers had decided to let the judges judge all Miss America contestants based on their intellect and passion, rather than mere physical appearance.

Carl’s tweet was ratified by Gretchen Carlson, charwoman of Miss America’s Board of Trustees after she announced on ABC’s Good Morning America, that Miss America was no longer a pageant where women compete over beauty: it was now an all-round competition. Carlson had personally won the title of Miss America 1989, and had been recently promoted to the post of chairwoman in the competition. During her segment on GMA, Gretchen announced that both the evening gown portion and the swimsuit section of the 2019 Miss America contest had been scrapped by the organizers. Contestants from all the 50 states of America and the District of Columbia would now be judged based on what comes out of their mouth; which included an overall judgement of passion, intelligence, social impact initiatives, and their personal opinion on the post of Miss America.

This decision is said to have been made unanimously by all the organizers of Miss America with their intentions of letting young Americans celebrate their accomplishments and talents, until they finally attain their scholarships based on their confidence and freedom of expression, rather than external beauty. The 91st Miss America contest is scheduled to take place in Atlantic City, New Jersey, on the 9th of September, 2018, where Cara Mund will be broadcasted on ABC crowning the winner of the 2019 Miss America competition.

  1. Why not? Men can have “passion, intelligence, social impact initiatives, and… personal opinion[s].” You’re going to get some women that aren’t particularly pleasant to look at, you may as well call it ‘America Person’ and open it to men.
