Actor, Sanya Malhotra who made her Bollywood debut with Aamir Khan’s Dangal is not just a trained actor but also a trained dancer. She recently spoke to PTI, where she revealed dancing and acting to be her two passions. She further revealed her intentions of doing a film which, makes her do both.
Before joining Bollywood, she trained herself in contemporary and ballet dance forms. As a dancer, she showcased her abilities in the reality show, Dance India Dance.
Talking to PTI she said,” I’m eagerly waiting for a script where I can act and dance at the same time because these two things are very close to my heart. I’m 100 percent sure, one day I ‘ll find a perfect script where I can dance and act.”
In 2017, she was credited with the title of choreographer for the song ‘Sexy Baliye’ in the film ‘Secret Superstar’. The film was an Aamir Khan production and starred Zaira Wasim in the lead.
In her short career, Sanya has played two real-life characters. She portrayed the role of wrestler Babita Phogat in Dangal(2016) while she played Anupama Banerji in Shakuntala Devi(2020), daughter of Vidya Balan’s title character.
In the interview, Sanya was asked to draw parallels between the two real-life based films. She spoke how the two films are thematically different and said :
“We do tend to change a lot of things in a biopic, there are also those films that are inspired by the personalities as opposed to being a biopic. But Shakuntala Devi is a complete Biopic.”
The actor further added,
“Dangal was inspired by true events. We were never trying to be Babita and Geeta Phogat. We never met them when we were prepping or shooting for the film. So we had some sort of freedom to bring our own element into the character that we were playing.”
As an actor, she’ll next be seen in Anurag Basu’s dark anthology comedy film, Ludo. Another film in her kitty is Pagglait, which Balaji Motion Pictures and Sikhya Entertainment is producing.
Shakuntala Devi is currently available to stream on Amazon Prime Video. It stars Vidya Balan in the lead as the mathematical genius.
