Thiagarajan Kumararaja is back with yet another cult classic ‘Super Deluxe’. The film is an anthology consisting of more than one protagonist and none of them seems worthless. The captivating film brings out the best from the whole cast and after watching the movie one can understand why Anurag Kashyap regretted not being part of it.

Among the multiple stories going around but somehow interlinked with each other, on is about a couple, Vembu (Samantha) and Mugil (Fahadh Faasil). Though Mugil loves Vembu, she is not happy with her life and invites her ex-boyfriend home. Another story involves Jyoti (Gayathrie), whose husband is a transwoman, Shilpa (Vijay Sethupathi). The third is about a group of boys and mother of one among them is a former pornstar Leela (Ramya Krishnan), who is away from her husband Arputham/Dhanasekar (Mysskin), a preacher.

There is a dialogue in the film – Something that you do may affect someone in some way or the other, and the whole movie lives on this one sentence. The film touches every known topic to a human, from sex, marriage, philosophy, religion, faith, moral ambiguity, gender inequality, to even aliens.

Four writers viz, Nalan Kumarasamy, Neelan K Sekar, Mysskin & Kumararaja has written the story and instead of making it complicated and chaotic, they worked brilliantly to make it a must watch.

Every story though interlinked has its own uniqueness and a fair share of surprises and mysteries. And it is hard to categorize the genre of the movie because it has entertainment, humor, crime, fiction and a pinch of sci-fi.

The songless movie has been reignited by the magic of Ilaiyaraaja’s iconic songs in bits and pieces.
