Actress Vidya Balan has been credited for changing the way female characters were perceived and made in films.

She recently shared some pictures on her Instagram profile, from Imperial College London, where she received the Youth Icon Award.

The ‘Kahaani’ actress talked about how it was the same place where mental calculator Shakuntala Devi had made calculations, which earned her a name in the Guinness Book of World Record.

She wrote: “During my London shoot for the film #Shakuntala Devi ,i was excited to visit The Imperial College London for an interaction with the students…It was after all where #ShakuntalaDevi made the historic calculation that earned her an entry into the #GuinnessBookOfWorldRecords ????. And what made it unforgettable was the love and warmth i received from the students …the energy in that room was truly infectious ????.So Thank you #ImperialCollegeLondon and Thank you some more for the #YouthIconAward … its extra special cuz for the first time i received a Youth Icon Award from the Youth itself ????.

Vidya is currently filming for ‘Shakuntala Devi’, where she plays the role of the namesake human calculator.

The film, directed by Anu Menon, also stars Sanya Malhotra as he daughter Anupama Banerji.

For the preparation, Vidya has been reading books on her and met several people who knew her. ‘Shakuntala Devi’ is scheduled to release in summer 2020.

Vidya’s last film was ‘Mission Mangal’, where she played an ISRO scientist who is trying to balance home and work.

The film and her performance met with positive reviews and the former proved to be a major commercial success.
