Sports betting legislation in Louisiana has been approved by the House by a vote of 77-24.

The Bill which seeks to authorize the Louisiana Lottery to conduct sports wagering also envisions levying of tax on sports gaming wagering. It was read several times and passed with certain amendments.

John Stefanski along with 13 co-authors has sponsored the Bill, otherwise known as HB697.

Now after gaining the approval of the House, the Bill will move to seek Senate approval. The voters of the Louisiana approved sports betting legislation in 55 parishes out of 64 in November 2020.

The legislature must pass two bills, with one including language for regulation and licensing procedures and another setting the tax rate, as per Gambling.com’s report.

The Bills provide for 20 casino licenses, authorized horse racing tracks, procedures for land based casinos to apply for licenses and proposal for online wagering etc.
