Blurring partisan party affiliations, MPs from Andhra Pradesh continued their agitation in both the houses of Parliament on Friday leading to disruptions.

Protest :

BJP’s ally Telugu Desam Party (TDP) MPs on Friday protested near Mahatma Gandhi’s statue in Parliament voicing their disappointment with the Union Budget.

TDP leader Shiv Pratap said Prime Minister Narendra Modi had not kept his words in developing Amravati.

The Lok Sabha was adjourned for nearly a month-long recess amid protests by Andhra Pradesh members demanding more central assistance for the state.

Members from TDP and YSR Congress continued their protests during Zero Hour.

After papers listed for the day were laid, LS Speaker Sumitra Mahajan adjourned the House, which would now meet again on March 5.

It also marks the end of the first half of the Budget session in the Lok Sabha.

Rajya Sabha also saw two adjournments as Andhra members continued their protest. Congress’ KVP Ramachandra Rao walked into the Well of the House holding a banner that read: “Implement Special Category Status, Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, assurance given by PM on 20.02.2014.”

A group of TDP members soon joined him with their own placards and shouted slogans like “we want justice.”

The TRS accused the TDP of “match fixing” with the NDA government to get a special status and other demands as promised for a bifurcated Andhra Pradesh. TRS leader Kesava Rao questioned the way TDP was protesting to get its demands implemented by the government.

Rahul urges all parties to unite

Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Friday called upon all political parties to unite over the issue of granting special status to Andhra Pradesh. “The Congress supports the just demands of the people of Andhra Pradesh for special category status and speedy completion of the Polavaram project. It’s time for all parties to unite on this issue and support this call for justice,” he tweeted.
