Arun Jaitley, who had been suffering from kidney ailments for the past few months, finally underwent a surgery at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences on the 14th of May, 2018. The Union Finance Minister had reportedly been admitted to the hospital on Saturday, and was taken to the operation theatre on 8:00 am, Monday morning.

An official from the AIIMS explained to the Press that the renal surgery which was performed on Arun Jaitley proved to be successful. The operation took place peacefully, and both the donor and the recipient came out stable, and recovering.

According to insider sources, Dr. Sandeep Guleria, a nephrologist from Apollo Hospital had been part of the team which performed the transplant on Jaitley. Dr. Guleria was also the brother of AIIMS Director Randeep Guleria, and both of them were family friends with Arun Jaitley.

Arun Jaitley had recently cancelled his scheduled visit for the 10th India-UK Economic and Financial Dialogue which was to be held in the following week, stating the cause as health issues. The Minister also underwent a bariatric surgery in the September of 2014,to treat weight gain because of a diabetic condition. Arun Jaitley also had many heart surgeries prior to this in his life.
