Farooq Takla an associate of Dawood Ibrahim who is also accused of being involved in the 1993 Mumbai blasts has been deported to India from Dubai. He escaped from India twenty-five years ago. Upon his landing, in Delhi, he was arrested by the CBI.

He has been kept under questioning and will be presented in the TADA court. The Interpol had issued a Red Corner Notice against Takla in 1995. His whereabouts were traced to Dubai, following which he was deported back to India. The Mumbai blasts constitute one of India’s most terrible memories. On March 12, 1993, 257 people were killed, and 700 were injured during the blasts.

Takla’s arrest followed two days after well-known criminal lawyer Shyam Keshwani said that Dawood Ibrahim would return to India for questioning, provided his preconditions were met. The US has even declared Dawood to be a global terrorist. Takla was responsible for providing logistical support to the perpetrators of the blast. The charges against him include murder, criminal conspiracy, voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons and many more. Takla and his brother Mohmad Ahmad Mansoor were both parties to the blasts. Mansoor was arrested while his brother managed to escape. But he was later acquitted when the CBI couldn’t establish his link to the blasts.

It is supposed that Takla was managing Dawood’s international crime syndicate while in Dubai. India has been applauding this small victory against Dawood who has evaded law since 1993. But justice will only be served when Dawood is arrested and is given the punishment he deserves. But any leads can be seen as a step towards defeating terrorism. In the meantime hopefully, the CBI doesn’t let go of Takla soon. Following Takla’s arrest, Subramaniam Swamy took Twitter to congratulate National Security Advisor Ajit Doval for the success.
