The Telecom Secretary, Aruna Sundararajan, on Saturday said that Indian airspace will soon have In-flight connectivity allowing people to telephone and internet network during their travel.

As quoted by Economic Times, Aruna Sundararajan said, In-Flight Connectivity (IFC) enabling passengers to make calls and access internet services on domestic and international flights in India may happen this or early next week. The central government would issue a notification for this soon.

To cater to the demanding needs of passenger all over the world, many airlines offered data communication services like wifi. Although, Indian airspace was still to provide any service like that for domestic or international flight.

As per the latest statement, both foreign and domestic airline will enjoy this facility to attract more passengers.

“See a lot of the airline operators have been quite keen on IFC. They see it as a competitive strategy to attract customers. International operators like INMARSAT also are keen to come in and of course, our own local players are there. Definitely, there is a lot of interest,” she added.

Reportedly, the tariffs levied on IFC will be in the hands of operators. Government’s intervention is subject to the prices levied by operators against their customer.

Around 30 airlines provide similar service on the plane. It includes notable names like AirAsia, Air France, British Airways, Egypt Air, Emirates, Air New Zealand, Malaysia Airlines, Qatar Airways and Virgin Atlantic.
