Omar Abdullah, leader of National Conference Party speaks to media about his meeting with Governor Satya Pal Malik in Srinagar. The meeting comes amid the heated political situation in the valley due to recent orders by Government of India.

Omar Abdullah confronted the governor on important issues affecting the political environment of Jammu and Kashmir. Though he mentioned that the governor has assured them on these issues, He said he would still like to hear from the Government of India.

He, as quoted by ANI, said, “We told Governor that there are rumors about 35A, 370, delimitation and even trifurcation, Governor assured us that in all these issues, no preparation is being made for any announcement.”

He also lashed out at the government’s decision to stop the yatra, putting a halt to Amarnath pilgrimage. He is demanding an official statement on the issue. Recently, the Indian government called off Amarnath yatra due to terror alerts. The devotees were stopped at Udhampur and shifted to Jammu meanwhile. Citing terror reports, Home Affair Ministry has deployed 100 units of CPAF (Central Armed Police Force) in the valley.

Though the Government of India has backed their decision on credible reports, the local parties have refused to toe the line of Union’s decision. Regional parties have requested the Union government to stop spreading fear among the people.

Various stakeholders in the valley are also organizing meetings to hear the concerns of citizens and balance the changing environment. Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister, People Democratic Party chief Mehbooba Mufti have also called for an urgent meeting of her leaders to talk about the changing situation.

Earlier, the National Conference leaders also met Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss the situation in the valley. Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah also urged PM to hold state assembly elections at the end of this year.
