Today, the ministry of Women and Child Development has launched an online portal for the women. The online portal is termed as ‘SHe-box’ (sexual harassment electronic box), which will be hosted on the ministry’s website “www.wcd.nic.in“.
Initially, the portal will be providing an opportunity for the women employees of the central government to file complaints related to sexual harassment at the workplace. But after some time, the ministry will also enable employees from private companies to lodge the complaints.
Once a complaint is registered, the WCD ministry will forward it to the respective ministry/department where the woman works. Then, they will simultaneously follow with the other ministry regarding the matter to monitor the actions taken by them.
Union Minister, Maneka Gandhi after launching the portal said, “We are also going to soon conduct a national survey to assess the nature and magnitude of sexual harassment at the workplace”. Besides, she also has instructed the officials to make the portal as interactive as possible.
The decision to host an online platform for sexual harassment cases was taken by the WCD ministry last October after the minister received complaints from women employees in various ministries.
