Congress Lok Sabha Leader and West Bengal MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury on Thursday raised a big question mark on Mamata Banerjee’s seriousness to take up the fight against the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Speaking to ANI, Congress said, ‘People say something & then go back on their words, it’s her nature. If she is serious she’ll have to talk to our senior leadership. The way BJP is growing in Bengal, it is due to Mamata ji’s failures’.

His comment comes a day after Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday said that both CPI-M and Congress should come together to fight against Bharatiya Janata Party in the state. Speaking in the West Bengal Assembly, Chief Minister further said that BJP is trying to run a parallel and government.

Referring to the violence that broke out in Bhatpara, Mamata Banerjee had earlier, ‘After giving votes to them (BJP), see what is happening there. She added that for the greater interest of the people of Bengal, we (opposition) have to continue our fight.

Further seeking support from Congress and the CPI-M, Mamata Banerjee said, We all need to come together. It does not mean joining hands politically but we have been united on some common issues in the state as well as centre to take on Bharatiya Janata Party/

It should be noted that Congress is making efforts to bring all opposition parties under an ambit in the Lok Sabha in bid to corner BJP in Parliament.

Her remarks came on the backdrop of a violent clash between the workers of state ruling TMC and centre ruling BJP on June 20. The clash allegedly claimed the lives of two BJP workers. Both Trinamool Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party have blamed each other for the violence.

The Bharatiya Janata Party in the national polls made a big dent in Mamata’s Stronghold West Bengal. The saffron party managed to give a big jolt to Mamata Banerjee‘s TMC by winning 18 seats out of total 42 Lok Sabha Seats of the state, while TMC bagged 22 seats.

Bharatiya Janata Party has also improved its vote share from 17% in 2014 to over 40% in recently held national polls.
