‘Polavaram Yatra,’ in Andhra Pradesh has impacted the finances of AP State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC).

The ‘Polavaram Yatra’, which has impacted the finances of Andhra Pradesh Road Transport Corporation (APRTC) since the time it started in January 2018. If the reports of officials are correct the total dues will reach 150 crore.

“We have been sending reminders to the Water Resources Department to clear the dues but to no avail. What is surprising is that the Irrigation Department has earmarked only Rs. 22 crore for the purpose,” says a senior official.

“There was an unreasonable competition among the leaders to arrange buses for Polavaram from their respective constituencies/places. The RTC had arranged ‘Amaravati’, ‘Indra’ and ‘Super Luxury’ buses for the visits. Krishna district topped in the number of buses operated to the project site. Between 5,000 and 6,000 buses might have been operated from the district. Most of the air-conditioned buses that had been plied were from Krishna district,” say officials.

Earlier there have been criticisms on Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu Naidu‘s Polavaram Project. Talking about the Polavaram project in election days, Naidu said, “Beyond election duties and officers on elections, they (EC) cannot interfere in regular administration, that is none of their business.” He pointed out similarities between Telangana CM Chandrashekhar Rao‘s review in the Kaleswaram project with his review of the Polavaram project.
