President Pranab Mulkerjee‘s term ends on 24 July and the political parties have geared up together to field a consensus candidate for the contest for the nest President of India.

BJP is trying hard to convince all the parties to agree with a single suitable name for the post, but non-NDA parties are unlikely to support the NDA candidate. BJP chief Amit Shah had appointed a 3 member committee  to reach out to all political parties and discuss about the building a consensus on the candidate to become the next President of India.

Rajnath Singh and M. Venkaiah Naidu met Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Friday to discuss about the same. But instead of revealing names of any of the NDA candidate, they asked for the names of candidates from the opposition side. At this behavior senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad told the media after the meeting that unless the government named a candidate there was no question of cooperation or consensus from the Congress side.

Party leader Mallikarjun Kharge said that BJP are seeking cooperation and they have got something in their mind, that is why they have not given any name and are seeking cooperation. But unless they give a name there can’t be any question of consensus or cooperation.
