After facing defeat in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Congress has been on the back grounds. The last few years have not been good for the Congress. After the 2014 elections, except for the Punjab assembly elections, the party suffered bad luck everywhere.
After continuously being surrounded by the Political turmoil of defeats it has now become a prestige point for Congress and the party is desperately fighting to prove its presence in the political equations in India. Since the party is fighting for its survival and looking at its day by day deteriorating situation, it has started getting suggestions from everywhere. On quite a few occasions the senior leaders of the party have expressed the need for change in the party on Public forums and also the old veterans have admitted the need for change in the Party leadership.
During a book releasing ceremony former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh‘s media adviser Sanjay Baru said that if the party gave advice for the improvement in the political equilibrium of the party and its need to come back. He said that if Congress wants to once again rule at the Centre, the need of the hour right now is to have a leader like Narendra Modi. Two other Congress veterans Manish Tewari and Shashi Tharoor were also present for the occasion.
Immediately after Sanjay Baru gave his suggestion, Congress spokesman Manish Tewari responded to this saying that getting defeated and winning is a part of the elections and added that the victory of any party is not permanent and governments are meant to change from time to time. On a positive note, he expressed his hopes that in the coming Lok Sabha polls due in 2019, Congress will come back with a strong bang taking over its lost seat again. Sanjay Baru himself is a writer and has written a book based on former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
Sanjay has worked as the media adviser to Manmohan Singh during his tenure as the Prime Minister. He is considered to be very close to Manmohan Singh. During his tenure, on several occasions, he played an important role in presenting the government’s side firmly. He has also written a book on the former Prime Minister titled, ‘The Accidental Prime Minister: Making and Unmaking of Manmohan Singh.’ This book has been in considerable controversies and it described the series of ec=vents that occurred during the first term of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. Former CM’s daughter had raised questions on this book and has accused Sanjay to be a back stabber and betrayer.
Congress had also raised questions about the authenticity of the book and had accused Sanjay to be a BJP supporter. There are also speculations of a film being produced based on this book.
