Congress wins clear majority in Karnataka Assembly polls

The Congress party has won a majority victory in the Karnataka Assembly Elections. As per Election Commission of India most recent figures show that Congress has secured 135 of the total 224 Assembly seats and is presently ahead in one constituency. The BJP has won 65 seats and the JD(S) has won 19 seats and other parties have won four.

One of the notable winners in Karnataka’s election is DK Shivakumar, who serves as the Pradesh Congress Committee chief. He achieved a remarkable victory in the Kanakpura constituency, winning by an impressive margin of 1,22,392 votes.

Basavaraj Bommai, who is currently the Chief Minister but will soon leave office, has won the Shiggaon seat by defeating Pathan Yasir Ahmed Khan, the Congress candidate, with a margin of nearly 36,000 votes.

Siddaramaiah, a candidate from the Congress party and a former Chief Minister, has emerged victorious in the Varuna constituency by defeating V. Somanna with a margin of 46,163 votes. In addition, HD Kumaraswamy, a former Chief Minister and leader of the JD(S), has won the Channapatna Assembly seat with a margin of almost 16,000 votes.

Jagadish Shettar, a former Chief Minister who joined the Congress party before the elections, suffered a defeat in the Hubbali-Dharwad Central seat, losing to the BJP candidate by a margin of more than 34,000 votes.

Vijendra Yediyurappa, the son of former Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa, emerged victorious in the Shikaripura constituency with a margin of 11,008 votes. Priyank Kharge, the son of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, won in Chittapur by defeating BJP’s Manikanta Rathod with a margin of 13,640 votes.

J.C. Maduswamy, the Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister, lost to JD(S)’s C.B. Suresh Babu in the Chikkanayakanahalli constituency by 10,042 votes. In the Chikkaballapura constituency, Health Minister K Sudhakar lost to Pradeep Eshwar of the Congress party by a margin of 10,642 votes. Similarly, in Ballari, Transport Minister B Sriramulu lost to B Nagendra of the Congress party by a margin of 29,300 votes. Assembly Speaker Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri also faced defeat in the Sirsi seat, losing to Bhimanna Naik of the Congress party by a margin of 8,712 votes.

Congress President Mallikarjuna Kharge expressed his gratitude towards the party workers, state leaders, and AICC office bearers for their efforts in ensuring the victory in the Karnataka assembly polls. He tweeted, “This is truly the victory of the People of Karnataka. They have voted for their progressive future, their welfare & social justice. With folded hands, we thank them for putting their trust in us. Congress party shall implement the 5 guarantees.”

 

During his media address in Bengaluru, State Congress President DK Shivkumar became emotional and expressed that the people of the state had given a huge mandate.

Outgoing Chief Minister Basavraj Bommai said, “We accept the verdict of people of Karnataka with due respect, we will take this verdict in our stride. We will analyse and correct our fault lines and rebuild the party and come back during parliamentary elections.”
