In order to increase the reach among Kerala voters, CPI-M (Communist Party of India-Marxist) has prepared a strategic action plan to expand its base. The decision came after a 4-day discussion of the party officials.

Speaking to the media, CPI-M state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan said that the party not only aims to target the Congress-led UDF (United Democratic Front), but also the Bhartiya Janta Party. He called for bringing in organizational changes to counter the challenges raised by BJP. He also said that the saffron party with the support of the Central government and the strong RSS base network in Kerala is one of their main concern.

Balakrishnan also admitted that over the years, the party’s base among masses has eroded. He promised to reclaim the lost ground of party in Kerala state as the party was only able to secure 35 percent votes in Lok Sabha elections 2019 as compared to 48 percent votes in 2006 assembly polls.

CPI-M STRATEGY TO RECLAIM THE LOST VOTER’S BASE-

  • The Party said that it will take initiatives to bring secular-minded people. The party is also said to be targeting to bring back factions of Hindu, who left the party base due to the issue of the entry of women into Sabarimala.
  • The party also directed its party workers to refrain from getting involved in party violence incidents. Party cadres have also been advised to act with humility and win the love of people. Therefore party members were urged to shed their “arrogant” behavior.
  • Balakrishnan also told that his party would make environmental protection as the top-most priority in their list, in the wake of natural disasters like flood and landslides.
