On Tuesday, the election commission issued a notice to Manohar Parrikar over his alleged bribery remark while speaking at a rally in Goa recently while campaigning. In its statement, Election Commission stated that the CD which was handed over to the commission, had not been tempered in any way and the defense minister had promoted electoral offense of bribery.

Election Commission has asked Manohar Parrikar to submit his final reply by 9th February, however, Mr Parrikar has maintained his statement that his words were misinterpreted.

In a speech on January 29th, Manohar Parrikar had spoken in Konkani saying if someone comes and gives you INR 2000, take from them but vote for Lotus. The EC had sent him a notice before and asked for the explanation before February 3, however, he had demanded for more time for the explanation. Sources in Election Commission said that Manohar Parrikar had written to them that his words were misinterpreted while incorrect translation from Konkani to English.
