Upcoming by-poll on Uttar Pradesh‘s Hamirpur seat has turned into a four-sworded battle with major parties in the region announcing their candidates.

As per the Election Commission notification, Hamirpur seat will go to by-poll elections on 23 September. Counting of votes will take place on 27 September. The mentioned constituency is scheduled to go for by-poll because its former leader Ashok Kumar Singh Chandel (Bhartiya Janta Party candidate) was convicted in a murder case.

Hardeepak Nishad (Congress), Manoj Kumar Prajapati (SP), Yuwraj Singh (BJP), Naushad Ali (BSP) are said to be the prominent faces in the electoral battle. Nine candidates in total are reported to be in the fight for the seat. Jamal Alam Mansoori (Communist Party of India) is also being seen as a good competition to above candidates.

Congress’ state media management committee member, Lalan Kumar, while talking to the media showed his optimism for the upcoming polls. He said that the leadership of Priyanka Gandhi will prove to be boon for the party. He said, “You have seen the performance of the SP and the BSP in the Lok Sabha election. If there is any viable alternative to the BJP in the state, it is the Congress.” He also said that his party is focused on connecting people and representing weaker sections of society.

Apart from Hamirpur seat, by-polls will also be held for 12 other assembly seats. However, the dates regarding them have not yet been announced. All parties like Congress, Bahujan Samaj Party, and BJP are showing their confidence in the proposed candidates for the upcoming polls.
