Hardeep Singh Puri (Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for housing and Urban Affairs) launched the Swachh Survekshan 2020 on Tuesday.
This is the fifth such edition of Swachh Survekshan, an annual cleanliness survey. The survey will be conducted by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs in January 2020.
While announcing the same, the Minister also launched Swachh Survekshan 2020 tool-kit, SBM Water PLUS Protocol and Toolkit. An app named Swachh Nagar was also released which is an integrated waste management app and AI-enabled mSBM App (developed by National Informatics Centre). The app will help in the successful monitoring of waste segregation and garbage disposal.
Swachh Survekshan 2020 tool-kit has a detailed survey methodology and component indicators with scores that will help cities in preparing themselves for the survey.

The event also saw the launch of a special Swachh Survekhan theme song featuring Kangana Ranaut, singers Kailash Kher and Monali Thakur. It was webcast live across the country.
Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs also launched the Water PLUS Protocol that aims to provide a guideline for cities and towns. The provided guidelines will ensure that no untreated waste-water is released into the environment thus enabling the sustainability of the sanitation value chain.
Citizen-centric focus has been enhanced in the survey through verification of the progress made by cities on Swachhata through direct responses and feedback from citizens.
Durga Shanker Mishra, Secretary, MoHUA said that every year the survey is being designed in a new manner to inculcate innovation.
