Dissatisfaction with Maharashtra government’s commitment to implement Marathas reservation in educational institutions and government employment led Maratha Kranti Thok Morcha to stage a protest on Monday.

Maratha Kranti Thok Morcha is a non-political organization that demonstrates and holds silent protest regarding the demands of the community. Currently, their foremost demand is to get Marathas their long due benefit of reservation.

The Maratha people took to the streets demanding the proper and immediate implementation of the reservations accorded to them. Speaking to media, Aba Patil (President of Maratha Kranti Thok Morcha) told that though the government has given them the reservation status, they have not received any benefit out of it.

Aba Patil, as quoted by ANI, said, “From 2014 to 2019, no one from the community was appointed to any administrative jobs. We demand the state government to provide our qualified candidates with a temporary post in government jobs.” The leader also told media that even after the directions of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, the authorities have not looked into the matter and done the needful.

The protestors want an answer in writing on the matter. They also want the qualified candidates of their community should be posted in the government jobs with an immediate effect. Previously, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has issued a notification on 8 March to implement the Maratha reservation in government jobs and educational institutions.

The Maharashtra government passed the reservation for the Maratha community on the basis of Narayan Rane committee. On the recommendations of the Rane committee, Governor of Maharashtra promulgated an ordinance for Maratha State reservation on July 9, 2014.

In November last year, the Maharashtra Assembly passed a Maratha Reservation BillĀ granting 16 percent reservation to the community in government jobs and Educational Institutes. However, it led to the filing of several petitions in the court. The most contentious issue was that the eservation from 52% to 68% which is 18% more than the prescribed limit set by the Supreme Court.
