After its poor show in Mizoram Assembly Elections, The Congress will review its performance at a meeting on January 18, a party leader said on Thursday. Incumbent Congress on Tuesday was totally outperformed by the Mizo National Front (MNF).

In the assembly election results declared on Tuesday, the Congress managed to bag only 5 seats compared to the 34 it had won in the 2013 assembly polls. The Congress vote share saw a dip of over two digits. It came a poor third behind the MNF, which won 26 seats and the Zoram People’ Movement (ZPM), which won eight seats and is a new entrant in the state poll scenario. Moreover, in a major embarrassment to the party, its incumbent Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla could not manage to save at least one seat and lost both contested seat.

Chief minister-designate Zoramthanga of the Mizo National Front on Wednesday said the people might have rejected the Lal Thanhawla regime for its liberal policy towards liquor as against the expressed will of the churches in the Christian dominated the state of Mizoram

Bhartiya Janta Party opened its account in the state with bagging one seat in the State.
