On Monday, Lok Sabha session was adjourned till today over the Rafale clash.
The highlights from the session are-
- All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) opposes Triple Talaq Bill and calling it “anti-Shariyat and anti-Muslim women”. It threatened to move the SC if the ordinance is passed in Rajya Sabha during the ongoing session.
- Hours ahead of the beginning of the fifth day of the ongoing winter session, Congress MP Sunil Jakhar moved a privilege motion against PM Modi in Lok Sabha over the Rafale issue.
- RJD MP Manoj Jha also moved a privilege motion in Rajya Sabha against Attorney General KK Venugopal over Rafale issue.
- Also Congress MP Ranjeet Ranjan and CPI (M) MP Mohammed Salim submitted an adjournment motion notice in Lok Sabha over the Rafale issue.
- Rajya Sabha was adjourned for the day amid the protests by AIADMK and BJP members.
- Triple Talaq Bill was introduced in Lok Sabha. The Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill, 2018 (popularly known as the Triple Talaq Bill) seeks to replace the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Ordinance, 2018.
- Congress leader Shashi Tharoor opposed the bill stating that it targets a specific religion.
- On the Transgender Bill, Shashi Tharoor said that the definition of transgender persons in the Bill is “still defective”. He added, “It is important to accept the identity of transgender people in order to protect their rights.”
- TMC MP Dr. Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar opposed the Transgender Bill by calling it a “hastily drafted bill”. He added that one should understand the true meaning of transgender first. She claimed that the Bill has missed out on various important aspects of the third gender. He demanded the bill to be re-drafted with the main aim of ensuring social justice to the third gender and to abolish the existing discrimination against them.
- Lok Sabha passed Transgender Bill by voice vote.
- BJP’s Anurag Thakur moves a privilege motion against Rahul Gandhi over Rafale issue.
