Rahul Gandhi, Mamata Banerjee pay tribute to Karunanidhi on his 95th Birth Anniversary

Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Monday took to Twitter and pay tribute to Former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK Patriarch M Karunanidhi on the 95th Birth Anniversary.

Taking to Twitter on the occasion, Congress Chief said, ‘Remembering Kalaignar Karunanidhi on his birth anniversary. A true leader of the glorious Tamil people, whose memory will never fade away’.

While Congress Official handle tweeted, ‘M. Karunanidhi was a prolific writer who went on to become the longest serving Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. He was a stalwart of the Dravidian movement & a true representative of the Tamil people. We remember his contributions on his birth anniversary’.

West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC Supremo Mamata Banerjee also paid homage to the tall leader of Tamil Nadu. In a tweet, Banerjee said, ‘Fondly remembering M Karunanidhi Ji, former chief minister of Tamil Nadu, on his birth anniversary. He was a statesman and a great leader, loved by all’.

While earlier in the day, DMK Chief MK Stalin paid tribute to party patriarch and his father M Karunanidhi on the occasion of his 95th Birth Anniversary. 

MK Stalin and the party’s workers, showered flowers to the colossal photo of DMK Patriarch. Karunanidhi breathed his las is August last year at the age of 94.

Fondly remembered as ‘Kalaignar’, he had a flourishing career in the Indian cinema to work towards the Dravidian movement and general politics. He had become the Chief Minister in 1969 and was the longest serving Chief Minister of the state.

After the death of Karunanidhi, MK Stalin handled the party’s campaign single-handedly and registered a massive victory in the state in the recently held national polls.

MK Stalin’s DMK swept Tamil Nadu in the recently held elections. DMK who led the Secular Progressive Alliance of which Congress, communist parties, Vaiko’s MDMK and Dalit outfit VCK were a part, had won 38 of the 39 Parliamentary seats that went to polls in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.

While AIADMK-led alliance, of which BJP was a party, managed to win a single seat in the State.
