Supreme Court allowed BJP candidate Soumitra Khan to enter the Bankura district only to file his nomination papers against the orders by Calcutta high court that had directed the candidate, not to enter Bankura district in accordance to a case registered against him.

The supreme court allowed the candidate to enter into the district to file his nomination papers from Bishnupur constituency in Bankura district in West Bengal. 

After the BJP candidate joined BJP, three criminal cases were registered against him in different police stations of Bankura.

Soumitra Kham, a former TMC candidate joined the BJP on January 9, 2019. He was granted interim bail by the High court on one case out of three registered criminal cases against him.

Two local youth and Bankura Trinamool Congress President alleged in their complaint that during the tenure of the Soumitra Khan as Bankura MP, he received ₹3 lakhs from each of them in 2018 and promised jobs as assistant teachers in state-aided schools in Bankura district. The persons claimed that no jobs were given to them even after giving money to the MP.

The second complaint lodged was against the illegal lifting off the sand from the Kangshabati river and selling it to various traders. The third complaint was lodged by the Bankura town police alleging him to possess an illegal unlicensed revolver.

The lawyers of the BJP candidate alleged the opposition of false claims calling it a political vendetta against him.

The state will go to polls in five phases of Lok Sabha elections on April 17, 24, 30 and May 7, 12. The results for the elections will be announced on May 23.
