Setback to Mamata Banerjee; TMC MP Anupam Hazra, Others Shift to BJP ahead of Polls

In a major setback to West Bengal ruling party Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Tuesday, its Lok Sabha MP Anupam Hazra joined Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP). He joined hands with saffron party in the presence BJP State In-Charge Kailash Vijaywargiya and Senior BJP Leader Mukul Roy.

Apart from Hazra, Congress MLA Dulal Chandra Bar and CPM MLA Khagen Murmu (pic 2) also joined BJP along with TMC MP Anupam Hazra in BJP Headquarters in New Delhi. TMC in the last couple of days has suffered setbacks with its leaders joining hands with Bhartiya Janta Party. Earlier on Monday Its Legal cell leader Devjani Dasgupta joined BJP ahead of Lok Sabha Polls.

Earlier on Monday, two Congress Leaders: Dr Gautam Ghosh and Rakesh Kumar from Congress also joined trucks with the Bhartiya Janta Party.

While today, its Anupama Hazra one of the youngest MPs turncoats. Hazra once very close to TMC Supremo Mamata Banerjee represents Bolpur Parliamentary Seat. He was expelled by the party for his inclination to leave the party.

Anupam Hazra inclusion is crucial for the saffron party who is yet to make any mark in the West Bengal that sends 42 parliamentarians to the lower house, third highest after Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra.

Election Commission had on Sunday declared schedule for General Elections 2019. General Elections are slated for April-May this year that would spread on Seven Phases starting from April 11 to May 19. Counting of Votes and Results for the mega Battle of ballots will be announced on May 23 four days after the 7th phase of voting.

Voting in all 42 Parliamentary Seats of West Bengal will spread in all seven phases starting from April 11.

In last 2014 General Election, Trinamool Congress won 34 Lok Sabha Seats, Congress 4, while BJP and CPI(M) won 2 seats each amidst heavy ‘Modi Wave’.
