On Thursday, US Secretary of State Michael R Pompeo and Secretary of Defence James Mattis met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and gave him the synopsis of the ‘first 2+2 dialogue’ held between US and India, reported PTI.

A statement released by the Prime Minister’s Office said, “The prime minister fondly recalled his interactions with President Trump and requested the secretaries to convey his greetings to him.”

The statement further stated that the two US secretaries apprised the Prime Minister about the “fruitful and productive” two-plus-two dialogue held between them and their Indian counterparts External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman earlier on Thursday. The PM congratulated all the four elected representatives for the successful 2+2 dialogue, PTI report said.

The two secretaries held two-plus-two talks with their Indian counterparts on Thursday. The main focus of the discussion included strengthening strategic ties between the two nations, resolving differences over India’s defence engagement with Russia, cross-country terrorism, H1B visa issue among others.
