Veteran Politician and YSR Congress Party Lawmaker Tammineni Sitaram was on Thursday unanimously elected as the Speaker of the Andhra Pradesh Assembly. Sitaram elected to Andhra Pradesh Assembly for the sixth time. He won the polls from Amudalavalasa Assembly constituency in Srikakulam district contesting on YSR Congress ticket.

Pro-Tem Speaker SVC Appalanaidu announced the election of Sitaram in the House on Thursday morning.

Sitaram entered politics and elected Andhra Pradesh Assembly in 1983, 1985, 1991, 1994 and 1999 from Telugu Desam Party (TDP). He was a cabinet minister in Chandrababu Naidu‘s cabinet

However, he later in 2009 joined the erstwhile Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) of actor Chiranjeevi but lost the election. After PRP merged with Congress in 2012, he rejoined TDP and subsequently switched to YSR Congress Party.

Chief Minister Jaganmohan Reddy and other YSR Congress Party Lawmakers then escorted Sitaram to the Speaker’s chair and congratulated him for being elected as the Assembly Speaker.

Andhra Pradesh Assembly Session begun on Wednesday where all elected MLAs were administrated oath by the pro-tem speaker SVC Appalanaidu.

Earlier on June 8, Andhra Pradesh chief minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy allotted portfolios to all the 25 new ministers who were sworn in earlier in the day. Jagan Mohan Reddy has appointed 5 Deputy Chief Ministers –  one each from Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, Backward Castes, Minority, and Kapu community – in the state.

Earlier in the day on Saturday, Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy assumed charge of his office at State Secretariat almost 8 days after taking oath as Chief Minister.

YSRCP Chief Jagan Mohan Reddy on May 30 took oath as Chief Minister of the Andhra Pradesh.

Jagan Mohan Reddy’s YSRCP in recently held polls registered a landslide victory in both assembly and national polls in the state. YRSCP won 151 assembly seats out of the 175 assembly seat in the state and unseat Chandrababu Naidu-led TDP Government.

While in national polls, YSRCP bag 22 Lok Sabha Seats out of 25 seats in the state.
