The Indian team’s Head Coach, Rahul Dravid, and former Indian Captain has tested positive for COVID-19.

Rahul Sharad Dravid was born on 11th of January 1973.

He was born into a Marathi family and raised in Banglore. He started playing cricket at a very young age.

Later, he represented Karnataka at different levels, such as U-15, U-17, and U-19.

Career

Rahul Dravid was also known as “The Wall” or “The Great Wall” by his fellow teammates.

He was never dismissed for a Golden Duck in the 286 test innings he played.

Dravid is the fourth highest run-scorer in test cricket, trailing only Sachin Tendulkar, Ricky Ponting, and Jacques Kallis.

Coaching

After the end of his playing career, he started taking the role as the mentor of the Rajasthan Royals IPL team.

Later, he officially took over as the mentor in 2014. During this time, he was also involved with the Indian National Team.

He was appointed as the mentor for the Indian team’s tour of England in 2014 and later was appointed as the head coach of the U-19 team and India-A team.

Under his guidance, the U-19 team achieved the second position in the World Cup in 2016 as they lost the finals.

Two years later, the U-19 team did the impossible as they stopped Australia from winning the U-19 World Cup for the fourth time in a row and won the World Cup.

Rahul brought great talent to India, including some names such as Rishabh Pant, Ishan Kishan, and Washington Sundar.

Seeing the great success, he was appointed as the Head Coach of the Indian Cricket Team in November 2021.

The current COVID situation

As per the reports, he has mild symptoms due to which he has been given two days of rest and will be tested again after two days.

For the time being, Paras Mhambrey the bowling coach will step in as the coach.

A prior call to VVS Laxman, who coached team India on the current Zimbabwe tour, as Rahul took a break.

The call will be taken after two days when Rahul will take the test again.

Before the time begins, the rest of the team will assemble in Dubai today for the Asia Cup.

Some of the players will join after the completion of the Zimbabwe tour.
