The man who stepped up in both the T20 finals for the West Indies and top-scored in those matches has now retired from all forms of cricket now as Marlon Samuels declared it on Wednesday.

He last played for the Carribeans in 2018 against Bangladesh, he informed the West Indies Cricket about his retirement in June of this year and now the 39-year-old has taken the final step of his cricketing career.

Samuels, who was recently embroiled during a controversy with Ben Stokes, came into the limelight after his match-winning knock within the 2012 World T20 final in Colombo. His quickfire 78-run knock off 56 balls against Sri Lanka and his 1/15 with the ball helped the Windies seal a cushty win.

In the 2016 World T20 final in Kolkata, Samuels became the sole man to be named because of the player of the match in two ICC finals after hitting an unbeaten 85 runs off just 66 balls to shatter the dreams of Englishmen.

Samuels, who began his international career way back in 2000, also represented several T20 franchises around the world later in his career, including Delhi Daredevils, Pune Warriors, Melbourne Renegades, and Peshawar Zalmi.

During a controversy-filled career, Samuels had to serve a two-year ban for corruption. There were certain allegations made against him in 2008 where he was accused to receive money and put the game of cricket in disrepute.

His action was also found to be illegal and thus he was banned for bowling for one year in 2015.

Lastly, Samuels had a great career as the number speak for themselves. He played 207 ODI’s, 71 Tests and 67 T20’s where he managed to score 17 centuries and a total of 11,134 runs in his International Career.
