UberEATS — a food delivery service from the cab-hailing giant Uber, has now been launched in Bengaluru. Initially, it started operations in Mumbai earlier this year as a pilot project.

Prior to rolling out the service in Bengaluru, the company started operations in Gurugram and Delhi-NCR as well.

In Bengaluru, the firm has partnered with more than 300 restaurants like Adigas, Madurai Idly and Truffles, Barista, Krispy Kreme, Chai Point and FreshMenu, among others.

Commenting on the launch, Bhavik Rathod, Head of UberEATS India, said,

We’re excited to launch UberEATS in Bengaluru within four months of starting operations in India. With the aim to make UberEATS synonymous with effortless food delivery, we want people across the country to experience the ease of ordering their favorite food at the push of a button. Whether it’s ordering a chicken roll in Gurugram, vada pav in Mumbai or dosa in Bengaluru, all consumers should have to do is fire up the UberEATS app.

Along with announcing the commencement of operations in Bengaluru, the company has also announced the appointment of Vartika Bansal as the General Manager for UberEATS in Bengaluru.

She will now be responsible for partnering with and driving value for restaurants and delivery partners. Prior to joining UberEATS, Vartika — who has an MBA from Stanford University, was leading the flagship business at OYO as AVP Operations.

As of now, the service will be available in three regions of Bengaluru — Koramangala, HSR and BTM Layout. Vartika Bansal says that company will soon expand to more areas across the Bengaluru.

UberEATS started in 2014 as a delivery pilot in Los Angeles, and was later expanded to other countries. It is now a stand-alone app available in 27 countries and in 97 cities around the globe, including India.

It allows consumers to schedule orders, curate restaurants, personalise taste preferences and dietary restrictions. As per the company, UberEATS has a delivery time of 35 minutes.

In India, UberEATS faces tough competition from contenders like Zomato, Swiggy, and Foodpanda. Along with them, it also faces Google, which recently entered the market with Areo.
