New York-based Robotic Process Automation (RPA) startup UiPath, has raised around ₹1,637 crores ($225 million) in series C round led by Google‘s late-stage growth venture capital fund CapitalG, along with Sequoia Capital.

Existing investor Accel Partners, who led series A and B rounds, also participated in this round.

The funds raised will be used to accelerate product development, deepen its ecosystem of partnerships to deliver complimentary AI-enabled solutions, and expand its presence across eight cities in India.

The automation startup is looking to expand its workforce in India from 250 to 1,200 by the end of 2019, as it looks to accelerate product development operations in India.

Founded by Daniel Dines and Marius Tirca in 2015, UiPath provides enterprise RPA solutions to help companies increase efficiency and reduce costs by deploying software robots for repetitive and unproductive tasks.

“This is a milestone development that is going to change the market dynamics and play an important role in our expansion plans in India,” Raghunath Subramanian, president and CEO (India and APAC), UiPath, said in a statement.

The startup plans to expand its presence across eight cities in Indian including Chennai, Pune, Hyderabad, and Kolkata, as it increases headcount in Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Gurugram.

UiPath has a presence across 14 countries throughout North America, Europe, and Asia, with more than 1,800 business partners and government agencies leveraging its technology.

The automation startup last raised $153 million in series B round led by Accel Partners, along with participation from CapitalG, Credo Ventures, Earlybird Venture Capital, and Seedcamp in March 2018.

In the RPA space, UiPath competes with a number of automation startups including London-listed Blue-Prism and Automation Anywhere.

In July 2018, automation startup Automation Anywhere had raised ₹1,713 crores in series A round led by NEA and Goldman Sachs Growth Equity, valuing the startup at $1.8 billion.
