Huawei, the brand that has outnumbered Apple in terms of smartphone shipping launches a new fancy smartphone Huawei Nova 2i in Malaysia. The device is being listed on the official Huawei website, with no confirmation on the exact date or the pricing.

Design and aesthetics, Huawei decided to go with the market trend. The device offers full-metal unibody on the back with an 18:9 aspect ratio display on the front, protected by 2.5D curved tempered glass on the top. As a matter of fact, this is the first Huawei smartphone to offer Quad-camera setup (two at the back and two at the front) making it one of a kind device. Here is the complete list of tech specifications for the Huawei Nova 2i.

The Huawei Nova 2i features a mammoth 5.9-inch FHD+ IPS LCD screen. Under the hood, the device boasts a Kirin 659 Octa-core SoC, engineered by Huawei, paired with 4 GB LPDDR3 RAM and 64 GB onboard flash storage with a dedicated micro SD card slot (up to 128 GB). In terms of connectivity, the device offers a dual SIM card slot with 4G LTE and VoLte capability on either of the slots.

The interesting aspect of the Huawei Nova 2i is its camera, the device offers a 16 MP and a 2 MP combination main dual-camera setup, where the secondary sensor is used to measure the depth, which gives bokeh effect to the portrait photos. On the front side, the device offers a 13 MP and a 2 MP sensor with similar functionality. The main camera unit offers 4K video recording capability, however, the front-facing camera unit only supports 1080p video recording capability.

In terms of operating system, the device offers Android Nougat 7.0 out of the box, with a promised update to Android Oreo (custom user interface EMUI 5.0). On to the battery, the device packs a decent 3340 mAh Li-ion battery with fast charging capability via USB type C port. The device also offers support for gesture support, like, drawing an S will capture an entire web page, double tap to take a screenshot, and double tapping with two fingers will record the present screen.

The Huawei Nova 2i feels like a solid multi-media smartphone (at least on paper), but the pricing of the device that actually matters. Don’t expect the dual cameras to perform as good as the iPhone 8 Plus or Galaxy Note 8 Plus, as the features are mostly achieved via software rather than hardware part.
