Nubia, the famous Chinese smartphone maker launches two news devices in their homeland with features which are mostly seen in the premium flagship smartphones like Samsung Galaxy S8, LG G6, LG V30 and iPhone X. The Nubia Z17S and Z17 miniS will be available in China from October 19th and one can preorder them starting from today. These are the first set of devices from Nubia with 4 camera smartphone.
As per the design is concerned, both devices offer state of the art full glass unibody design with Aluminum mid-frame for the structural rigidity. These smartphones will be available different colour shades like Blue, Black, and Gold.
The Nubia Z17S featuring 6 GB RAM and 64 GB onboard flash storage is priced at CNY 2,999 (INR 30,000) and the 8 GB RAM and 128 GB onboard flash storage is priced at CNY 3,999 (INR 40,000). The miniS variant with 6 GB RAM and 64 GB onboard flash storage is priced at CNY 1,999 (INR 20,000) which makes it more affordable compared to the standard version. Let’s have a look at the tech specifications of the Z17S and Z17 miniS.
Let’s start with the most affordable of the lot, the Nubia Z17 miniS. The device is equipped with a 5.2-inch full HD IPS LCD 1080p screen with Curved 2.5D Corning Gorilla Glass 3 on the top. Under the hood, the device is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 653 Octa-core SoC, paired with 6 GB RAM and 64 GB onboard flash storage with a dedicated micro SD card slot (up to 128 GB).
In terms of camera capability, the device offers a dual rear-camera solution with dual 13 MP Sony made sensor (RGB + monochrome) with features like 4K video recording capability, with live bokeh mode with offers an artificial depth of field to the portrait photos. On the front, the device equipped with dual cameras as well, the 16 MP camera and an 8 MP camera offer feature like 1080p video recording capability with bokeh effect.
The device is equipped with a 3200 mAh Li-ion non-user replaceable battery with fast charging capability via UBS type C port. With respect to operating system, the device runs on Android Nougat 7.0 with custom UI on the top.
The Nubia Z17S is a true premium flagship smartphone from inside out. The device is equipped with a 5.73-inch LTPS 18:9 aspect ratio display with FHD+ 1080x2040p resolution. Under the hood, like the most of 2017 flagship smartphones, the Z17S is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 Octa-core SoC, paired with either 6 GB or 8 GB LPDDR4 RAM with 64 GB or 128 GB onboard flash storage with a dedicated micro SD card slot.
In terms of camera capability, the Nubia Z17S offers dual rear camera setup (12 MP + 23 MP) Sony-made sensor. The combination offers features like X2 optical zoom, portrait mode, and 4k video recording capability. For the selfie enthusiasts, the device offers dual 5 MP cameras with improved selfie features with 1080p video recording capability.
The device offers a 3100 mAh Li-ion battery with USB type C, features like fast charging capability (with up to 26W) can charge the device within few minutes. Even this device offers Android Nougat 7.0 with custom UI on the top.
So, to conclude the Nubia Z17S offers state of the art features, but considering the price tag of INR 40,000, the device feels bit overpriced for a Chinese brand (OnePlus 5 with similar storage is priced at the much lower price tag).
