OnePlus, the OEM that brought flagship smartphones to next level made a recent announcement that its previous flagship smartphone, the OnePlus 3T is not eligible to receive any major operating system update after Android O. Though, Android O is not out yet, it makes a bad impression on the OEM from its fan base by this kind of statements.

OnePlus 3T is not even a year old phone, as it was powered by SD 821 SoC, (same as SD 820 with higher clock speeds) it’s obvious that company is neglecting both OnePlus 3 as well as 3T, so it can only concentrate on its current flagship OnePlus 5. If the company can manage to update any one of these two devices, both 3 and 3T will receive next major Android OS update(similar chipset and hardware). This is not the first time OnePlus is killing the Software support, in fact, OnePlus 2 was promised to receive Android Nougat but recently accepted that they cannot deliver their promise so, OP 2 is struck on Android Marshmallow for eternity. OnePlus devices have lost their charm, their pricing is not aggressive, no more beefed up specifications what so ever. A company like OnePlus was built on the philosophy “never settle”, now their marketing strategy has changed (brand endorsement by actors) so their product prices are also shooting to the moon.

Paying INR 30,000 and above for a smartphone and not receiving OS updates for at least 18 months is not fair. These OEM’s should learn something from Apple, as their 4-year-old devices get latest software updates.
