Xaiomi, the number one smartphone maker in India has announced a bad news for its consumers. As a matter of fact, the company is pulling off the plug for these 6 smartphones after they receive the state MIUI 9 update, those devices will not be receiving any software updates (beta or stable) what so ever.

Which are those smartphones, that will not receive the future software updates:

  • Xiaomi Mi 2/2S
  • Xiaomi Mi 4i
  • Xiaomi Redmi Note 4G
  • Xiaomi Redmi 2
  • Xiaomi Redmi 2 Prime
  • Xiaomi Mi Note

If you own any of these six smartphones, then, this will be the last update that you will ever receive. The company has even promised that, if you are in a beta software, they will make new changes to incorporate the one last stable MIUI 9 update for these smartphones. For those who are running on the beta software, MIUI 7.11 will be the last beta update that you will ever receive.

If we look at the other way, the Xiaomi Mi 2/2s was released in early 2012, so, considering the 5 years software update is something impressing, that we don’t see every day. The MIUI 9 has a lot of improvements over the MIUI 8, with faster app launches, multi-window, splint window, and dual apps. The MIUI 9 even has a new overall look with the redesigned app icons, making it in line with the other premium Android smartphones.

So, considering the security threats, having a smartphone with faster software updates is always important. Don’t worry, as these smartphones will be fine for the next six months, but, however, after 6 months this device might offer serious security threads and other software problems.

However, some of these devices do offer the tech specifications, which are still in line with the today’s software norms and has a lot of potential under the hood.

Here is the official product statement from MIUI team regarding the same:

“MIUI performance is constantly improved to deliver a better and better system experience to all users. However, to ensure the best performance of MIUI, we have to make a tough decision of suspending the update of six devices after a long-time discussion and evaluation about the release time of devices, active users, hardware performance, etc,”

So, do you own any of these smartphones? What do you think about this decision from the company, they could have supported the smartphones like the Xiaomi Redmi 2 Prime and the Xiaomi Mi 4i right? Share your views regarding the same in the comment box.
