The backstage party for the 5G technology has already begun in India. TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India) is busy in making the laws and formalities for the upcoming 5G technology.

After the penetration of Jio, the phase of technology transformation from 3G to 4G happened very rapidly. Now, the upcoming technology will be available for the end users within 5 years. Most of the already existing telecom brands are planning to grab the spectrum, so they can start deploying the technology for the smoother rollout.

The consultation paper issued by the TRAI consists of views on spectrum caps and rollout obligations for 5G spectrum and the pricing details of the unsold 700 MHz 4G airwaves.

The 5G spectrum bands are between 3300 ~ 3400 and 3400 ~ 3600.

Official details from TRAI consultation papers:

“The government is planning to auction the right to use of spectrum in 700 MHz, 800 MHz, 900 MHz, 1800 MHz, 2100 MHz, 2300 MHz, 2500 MHz, 3300-3400 MHz and 3400-3600 MHz bands in the next auction to be held in 2017,”
“However, despite reminders, WPC has not provided the information sought till date. However, to avoid delay, this Consultation Paper has been finalised based on information available with the Authority,”

“Due to hyper competition, concerns have been expressed about the financial health of the sector, its revenue growth and the capability of the companies to meet their contractual commitments etc,”

However, the regulatory and technology for the optimal usage of 5G has not been finalised, and it looks Indian will be one of the first countries to roll-out 5G technology. However, the 4G network in India didn’t roll out at the first phase, the first 4G  network provider in India is Bharti Airtel.
