Like every year, we planned to take the kids on a summer vacation this year as well. We have always gone by train or flight to whichever place we went for holidays. This time the kids insisted on a road trip, influenced by their friends and their road trip stories. So we decided to go to Dehradun, as it was not too far away from Delhi and the road to Dehradun was quite scenic too.
So after finalising the destination, means to reach there was now a big question. My son suggested that we get a cab for the trip. That way, we would be quite comfortable on our journey. But the cab fares are generally quite high, so we had to try and find out if we would be able to get the best Delhi to Dehradun cab fare. We sent a message to them online and just a few minutes later, their representative called us back to inquire about our requirements and itinerary. We told the person what we had planned and she gave us a quite reasonadeble package. We were impressed and finalised it.
Overview and daily activities:
The cab was at our doorstep slightly before the time we have given. The car was well-maintained, both inside and outside. The chauffer was courteous and helped the kids to sit in the car and stowed our luggage as well.
Once we departed, he explained the route he would be taking for Dehradun and asked us if we wanted to change it. We were happy with his judgement as that was direct and saved time. Then we started our road trip to Dehradun. We had agreed to take the Saharanpur road via NH9 to Dehradun. The route was peaceful with little traffic as it was early morning. We stopped at a roadside dhaba to have some parathas.
Soon we reached Dehradun and checked into our pre-booked hotel. After resting for some time we headed out to see some sights in Dehradun. We started off with Ghanta Ghar, then went to the Robber’s cave or Guchupani. It was mesmerising to see the natural cave with river water. After that, we proceded to the nearby Malsi Deer park which has deer and Indian antelope in their natural habitat. The evening was spent roaming around in the local Paltan Bazaar.
Next day we started off with Gurdwara Nanksar. Then went to the Mindrolling Monastery in Clement Town. It is a Buddhist monastery with Greta stupa. Then went to the Tapkashwar mandir and enjoyed the Asan river nearby. It has a scared cave too, which attracts a lot of Hindu pilgrims. The evening was again spent strolling in the local market. As we had already seen all the sights of Dehradun in two days, we had the next day free.
So we planned to go to Mussoorie the next day. But we were hesitant of taking the same driver over tricky mountain roads. So we planned to rent a quality car in Dehradun with an experienced driver, who could navigate the mountain roads. But our driver to our surprise told us, that he is well trained in mountain roads too, as most of the people who come to Dehradun visit, Mussoorie as well.
So early the next day we started off to Mussoorie, and we also reached pretty soon. The driver parked the taxi at the mall road, as the taxis were not allowed beyond that. We enjoyed walking on the beautiful mall road without much tourists in the early morning.
Mussoorie is well known for its many churches, Mussorie lake, Gunhill road/Gun Point, camels back road, Lal Tibba Scenic point, and the Kempty falls. We spent the day visiting these sights and roaming around the mall road. In the afternoon we proceeded towards kempty fall, to enjoy the cool waterfall in the hot sun. The Fall was very crowded but the drive to it was amazing with cool mountain breeze and trees all around us. The waterfall rejuvenated us. After a lot of fun in the water, we started our return journey to Delhi with a heavy heart.
